My Clinical Interests
Appropriate Patient Access for All
Mission Statement
I back MyCareQuestions because it hands patients the tools to advocate for themselves — regardless of background or literacy. In my NHS years, I saw too many people leave consultations without the right questions asked. This fixes that. Equity isn’t just policy — it’s every single appointment.
What I think a good consulation looks like
Every patient deserves a consultation rooted in respect, rigour, and equity. From the moment a patient enters, the clinician should create a space where they feel genuinely heard — not processed. Active listening must underpin the entire encounter, free from assumptions shaped by background, postcode, or perceived complexity.
The clinician should take a thorough, structured history, ensuring presenting symptoms are explored fully rather than prematurely filtered. Diagnostic thinking must be systematic: no patient should leave without a clear clinical rationale for next steps, whether that means investigation, referral, or watchful waiting — and crucially, that decision should never be influenced by who the patient is, but solely by what they need.
Clear communication of findings, honest discussion of options, and shared decision-making are non-negotiable. Every patient — regardless of age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or health literacy — should leave better informed, appropriately supported, and confident their care reflects clinical need, not circumstance.
