About Me

Ishtiaq Ahmed is a British, UK, Australian and European trained surgeon who performs all aspects of adult cardiac surgery including revascularisation, valve reconstruction and surgery for atrial fibrillation. He has a specialist interest in Mitral Valve repair and Minimal access techniques for all valve surgery. He has a high volume mitral practice with a repair rate of over 95% for degenerative mitral valve lesions which include complex bi leaflet prolapse, Barlows valves and infective endocarditis.

He has been awarded multiple fellowship awards by the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (UK) and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. This enabled him to train with world class surgeons in Brussels and Lyon (Dr Hugo Vanerman and Professor Obadia) to facilitate his expertise in mitral valve surgery. He has been invited to speak about the benefits of Mitral surgery and Minimal Access techniques on a national level. He is an advocate of training and has pioneered this by setting up multiple simulation and cadaveric workshops which incorporate the latest technology including VR. He trains surgeons nationally in minimal access techniques.
